Are You A Full Service Groomer?
10/14/2014
One-stop shopping has become key for successful businesses today. The fewer stops one has to make, the better. A grooming business can cash in on this trend by offering a few additional services, especially now around the holidays.
While a pet is in the shop for bathing and grooming, offer to brush its teeth, administer plaque and tartar control products, or help remove tear or other stains. For the perpetually shedding dog, offer a carding service. Fifteen minutes spent with a magnetic stripper, pumice stone, or other carding tool can provide the groomer with extra income and the pet owner with much reduced shedding of hair and dander. Or for Halloween, a little hair gel or festive bandana.
Many owners like to have their pets' nails trimmed and ears cleaned between regularly scheduled grooming sessions; a service you can suggest when the owner drops off their pet. Applying nail caps is something that most clients would prefer to have a professional do as well.
In the front of your store, have all your services prominently displayed on a board with prices and combination discounts. It's surprising how many of these added services people will ask for and how much higher your profits will be.
Providing retail products will also help create additional profits for you and offer a convenience for your customers. At the very least, keep retail-size shampoos, combs, brushes, and cologne on hand for clients to purchase. Flea products also sell well.
The larger the number and variety of services and products that are provided, the closer the relationship between groomer and client will become. Remember, groomers that offer their clientele special services or extra enhancements to the traditional grooming request, will see their business boom.
